Explore Coventry this summer

Summer is finally here, and Coventry is the place to be! With the city’s beautiful green spaces, rich heritage and lively festivals, Coventry has something for everyone.

Join us as we celebrate being UK City of Culture 2021, with a whole host of events to take part in and enjoy, whether you're relaxing on a staycation or experiencing Coventry for the first time. Couple this with our eclectic mix of bars and restaurants, and you’ll soon discover why a city break to Coventry is a must this summer.

Explore our History

Coventry Cathedral
Destroyed during the Blitz, Coventry Cathedral attracts thousands of visitors from across the globe each year. The breathtaking ruins stand adjacent to the architecturally stunning new cathedral, reminding visitors of our past, while also looking towards a bright future. The new cathedral was designed by Sir Basil Spence and features a huge austere tapestry by Graham Sutherland. Visit in the morning to see the astonishing stained glassed windows at their most glorious.

The Music Revolution
Visitors looking to immerse themselves in Coventry’s music scene need to look no further than the Coventry Music Museum. Their current Ghost Town to Host Town exhibition documents the city’s fluctuating fortunes, both in terms of its social history and its music scene. Enjoy the museum’s interactive studio room, mock record shop booth and a reproduction of a typical Ska fan’s bedroom. Visitors also get the chance to sit in the actual car seen in the Specials’ Ghost Town video.

hmv Empire lets you experience live music like never before. This large multi-use, music and club venue is on a  mission to showcase local, breaking and established bands and artists. The venue has invested heavily to offer a destination that will attract some of the best touring acts around, this investment has allowed them to build three artist en-suite dressing rooms, a green room and VIP bar, and most importantly, a stage and front of house sound and light system to rival live music venues in the UK.

Transport Innovation
The first-ever British car was built in Coventry nearly 128 years ago. Now there are ambitious plans to re-establish the city as the heart of the country’s recovering automotive industry. Coventry Transport Museum, home to the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles on the planet,  launched the start of this year-long showcase with our brand-new exhibition, Our Future Moves.

The interactive and ambitious exhibition tells the stories of the objects on display by envisioning how future cities may look and exploring how pioneering developments in transport and technology could affect the environment and the way we live. It features diverse exhibits that highlight the region’s pioneering work in transport innovation – from autonomous vehicles to one-person submarines.

Explore our Culture

City of Culture
It’s no secret that this year Coventry is going all out to celebrate its year in the cultural spotlight! Visitors can enjoy an array of events including the runaway global hit show Choir of Man and The Sound of Cov Live.

Coventry’s must-see attraction, Assembly Festival Garden, is home to a mouth-watering selection of local food makers, four extraordinary performance spaces and will serve as a social hub for those wishing to make the most of their visit to the UK’s City of Culture. Coventry is very excited to welcome a brand new performance space into the Assembly Festival family, with the stunning double-decker Queen of Flanders spiegeltent (the largest in the world) serving as the flagship venue.

Coventry Pride returns with their annual Pride festival, and this year the theme is Pride and Joy. Taking place over two days and across several city-centre venues, this Pride festival is set to be the biggest yet. Enjoy free screenings of LGBTQ+ short films set in the city’s beautiful cathedral, and experience drag performances like never before. This event is one not to be missed!
