Albany Theatre

The Albany Theatre is an Art Deco main house theatre and flexible studio space staging classic and contemporary dance, drama, comedy and music of all genres. The main house seats over 600 across two levels and the studio accommodates audiences of up to 110 in a variety of formats. The venue is located just outside Coventry city centre (10 minutes’ walk from the station) with pay and display car parking around the building and a multi-storey car park 75 yards away. There is full access to the venue from Albany Road where there is also a licensed bar and kiosk open approximately one hour before all performances.

It is dedicated to the life and work of the late American comedian, most famous for playing the role of Sgt Bilko in The Phil Silvers Show which ran on the BBC for 47 years.

Launched in 2015 it now boasts a generous display of personal effects kindly donated by Phil Silvers' family. Admirers of the museum include Tim Vine, John Archer, Phill Jupitus, Paul Merton, Nick Hancock, Paul Bradley, Captain Sensible and Mark Hamill!

Theatre Absolute is an independent award-winning theatre company in Coventry. Its home is the Shop Front Theatre, a one-time fish and chip shop restaurant opposite Argos in City Arcade. The theatre is a unique 55 seat flexible space and is the only professional space of its kind in the whole of the U.K. Since co-founders, producer Julia Negus and writer Chris O’Connell opened the Shop Front Theatre in 2009, in partnership with Coventry City Council, the company has had thousands of people through the door of this once empty space. In the Shop Front, Theatre Absolute present new work for theatre, commission writers and artists, run writing workshops, mentor artists and holding many live events and talks. Other local arts and community organisations also access the space for their own work programmes.
