There are ways to travel that are more planet friendly and we wanted to give you a couple of tips on how to make your 2020 more sustainable.

Say no to plastic

It’s pretty typical nowadays to take a reusable water bottle with you to the office, but it might not be so second nature to take it with you when you’re out and about. By doing this not only do you save money on having to buy drinks, you avoid purchasing plastic – a material that is fast becoming the big no-no when it comes to sustainable living. To keep this as easy as possible, Coventry has free fill-up stations around town to make sure that you can always keep topped up without having to purchase anything. Download the free Refill Project app onto your phone to find out whereabouts you can refill in the city for free.

Go by rail

By taking slower forms of travel, you reduce your carbon footprint massively. Longer time travelling also means you have longer time to relax, listen to some music, read a book, chat with your friends and plan your time ahead. Public transport such as rail is a brilliant choice and might be faster than you think. Coventry has great links to the surrounding region, with lines that take you along the full breadth of the country, so is the perfect place to visit whilst exploring.

Have a staycation and stay in one place for longer.

Going abroad once a year is what most of us look forward to, but by exploring the country that you live in, not only do you minimise air travel, you also get to see some amazing things that are right on your door step. With Coventry in the heart of England, you aren’t far from some brilliant places to visit. By staying in one place as opposed to city hopping, you can really make the most out of your trip and get to know a city like one of the locals. With public transport and park and ride into the city centre making it even easier to reduce costs and increase your sustainability, you’re spoilt for choice. Take a look at our accommodation page to see where you can stay over.

Get Outdoors

As the old saying goes, a bit of fresh air will do you good and it’s true for your mind, body, wallet and the planet! By consciously working in outdoor venues and events into your travel calendar, you get to experience a city in a new way. Coventry recently celebrated its year as the City of Sport and has a great line up of outdoor events and activities to get involved with. Take a look to see what you can get up to on our website.

There is so much to see and do around the country and we hope that this mini blog has given you a few tips on how to do it sustainably. For more to see and do in Coventry, take a look at our website and follow us on Twitter and Facebook
