Students, Welcome to Coventry, University of Warwick, Coventry University

As the glow of summer comes to an end here in Coventry, we begin to welcome crisp mornings, autumn walks, toasted marshmallows...and several thousand new student faces to the city.

The start of a new academic year brings around 52,000 students to Coventry, some of who may already live here in the city, but many are new faces, arriving from all corners of the globe to study right here at one of our two world-renowned universities, and we’re extremely excited to welcome them.

Here at Visit Coventry, we are your on-hand information service as to what’s happening in the city, what to see and where to eat or drink while you’re here. You can visit our website at any time, or follow us on social media, for all the latest news, updates and important info to make your time here in Coventry the best it can be.

In-between your hours of study, Coventry offers ample opportunity to get out and explore unique history and heritage, right here on your doorstep. Our world-famous Cathedral is a sight to behold, with its historic ruins, devastated by the Blitz of WWII, standing right along-side the empowering New Cathedral, serving as Coventry’s symbol of peace and reconciliation. Our medieval guildhall is one of the country’s finest, while the Coventry Transport Museum houses the largest collection of British vehicles in the world – there are a multitude of ways in which can you learn more about the city you’re living in, it’s history and tales of the past, make sure to spend some time discovering our story while you’re here.

Coventry is home to two Escape Rooms (Escape Live and Escape Reality) that are ready to test your nerve and your puzzle-solving skills to see if you and your friends can beat the clock and make it out. Teezers Golf is Coventry’s 18-hole retro themed mini golf course. Head to the clubhouse bar to pick up a cocktail or two and snack on some street food, before challenging your friends along the themed holes, from Cool Runnings to WWE. For those of you who like to get active in your free time, you can scale a wall or two at Coventry’s very own Ballroom Climbing Wall in the centre of the city. You could always pay a visit to the 500-acres of Coombe Country Park, which is a beautiful backdrop to the Go-Ape treetop experience with stunning gardens, woodland and lake.

The city centre is home to a multitude of large and well-known high street stores for retail therapy, intermingled with independent shops and a multitude of places to eat, with many offering student discount opportunities – so don’t forget to keep your all-important student card close to hand.

Coventry’s annual ‘Student Shopping Night’ is a much-anticipated event for students to grab exclusive bargains and enjoy an array of entertainment throughout the city centre. Make a note of the date, Wednesday 2 October, and keep your eyes peeled for further updates and information on how you can obtain your free wristband to come along and take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity!

For a chance to kick back, relax and enjoy food from across the world (while perhaps enjoying a dance and a drink with friends), the city comes alive at night with many restaurants and bars offering an exciting opportunity to let your hair down once your lectures and revision sessions are over. Bars like The Botanist, Slug & Lettuce and The Yard offer music, entertainment and fab cocktails while great restaurants including Las Iguanas, Wagamama and Bayley Lane Kitchen bring great food and great drinks to students and residents here in Coventry.

As you may already be aware, Coventry will become the UK City of Culture 2021 and we’re thrilled to know that many of you will still be studying in the city during this exciting year. The city already hosts a fantastic array of events and activities, but as we gear up towards 2021, and throughout our City of Culture year, there are bound to be exciting opportunities to take part and get involved.
