Coventry Glides

Coventry is packed with everything for a fun festive season, from Christmas markets to ice skating in Cathedral ruins, whatever you wish for this Christmas, Coventry has something for you.

But that’s not all - as well as a brilliant Christmas panto at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre and plenty of other festive theatre and culture, Coventry offers an array of Christmas attractions to entertain all ages.

Festive ice-skating with Coventry Glides

For festive ice-skating in the heart of Coventry city centre, Coventry Glides returns for 2021.

This magical ice-skating experience in the ruins of atmospheric Coventry Cathedral, organised by the Coventry City of Culture Trust and Coventry City Council, with support from Coventry BID, is the perfect festive day out for all the family.

Skate in the winter sun, or book a slot for some evening skating in the beautifully-lit ruins of the cathedral. Enjoy food and drink options including hot drinks and cakes for the perfect festive activity.

Enjoy a special sleigh ride in Coventry

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a sleigh ride and Coventry has not just one - but two.

Coventry’s festive sleigh rides are on offer at the West Orchards Shopping Centre, Coventry Transport Museum and The Heart of England Centre. At the Transport Museum, wander through a magical winter wonderland of festive activities and snowy scenes before taking a ride on an enchanting vintage sleigh, pulled by two trusty reindeer. Younger passengers on the Transport Museum sleigh ride will even be able to meet Santa, tell him their Christmas wishes and collect a special gift.

Coventry Transport Museum’s Vintage Sleigh Ride and Winter Wonderland include museum admission tickets to make sure everyone can have a whole day of festive family fun.

For a sleigh ride with a difference, visit West Orchards shopping centre for a Virtual Reality Sleigh Ride. Coventry’s Santa Sleigh Lodge is found on Level 3 of the shopping centre. There, families will meet the man himself before using HD VR headsets to leave Coventry for a sleigh ride across the world. The perfect festive family activity, the trip will see you tilt forwards, backwards and side to side, getting the full real-life experience of being on board Santa’s sleigh. After the fun sleigh ride children will be able to chat with Santa and get a little gift. The perfect festive family activity right in the heart of Coventry city centre.

Hop on aboard as and experience the magical train ride tour to the Heart of England’s Lapland. You will pass under glittery and very sparkly lights staying on the train through the woods to see Santa and his most naughty Elf in their workshop who are working hard to get all the presents ready for delivery to all the boys and girls on Christmas Eve.

Coventry’s Christmas Markets

In 2021, Coventry city centre will welcome its very own Christmas market in the middle of Broadgate, with festive cabins packed with food, drink and gifts.

Adding to market traders found all year round in Coventry’s Hertford Street, Broadgate will be transformed into a winter wonderland thanks to an array of Christmas cabins offering mulled wine, hot chocolate, burgers, fancy fries and other festive food, as well as fire pits to toast marshmallows.

Some cabins are also being offered to local traders and craft businesses, complementing the offering from the city’s businesses for people coming to Coventry for their Christmas shopping between November 25th and Christmas Eve (December 24th).

Join FarGo village this winter for your one stop shop for fiercely independent Christmas Makers Market. Spread out over two weekends, the market offers lovingly handcrafted gifts, amazing local designers and some fabulously festive vibes!

Coventry’s Christmas lights

This year Coventry city centre will be lit up to offer the perfect festive backdrop for anyone looking for festive fun in Coventry. Broadgate will sit under a canopy of lights, while Cathedral Lanes, Upper Precinct, Smithford Way and Market Way will all also be lit up for the festive season, making Coventry a magical place for a Christmas visit.

Families looking to come Christmas shopping in Coventry can also take advantage of free parking in participating city centre car parks on Late Night Shopping Wednesdays in the run-up to Christmas, making the city the perfect place for Christmas shopping in the Midlands.

As darkness descends, join Coombe Abbey on their enchanting journey Luminate. As you weave a captivating light trail through the stunning, historic grounds of Coombe Abbey Park. Immerse yourself in the mesmerising mile long trail, with stunning lighting elements and fabulous light play, all set to ambient music.

A Timeless experience to be enjoyed by all, young and old alike.
