Visit Coventry has joined up with the brand new UK City of Culture ‘City Hosts’ to open a temporary Visitor Information facility right in the heart of Coventry city centre.

City Hosts’ are volunteer friendly-faces of Coventry during the city’s turn as UK City of Culture, responsible for guiding, supporting and welcoming visitors to the city over the next 12 months – and their support means the city can offer a temporary Visitor facility inside Friargate One whilst two new Visitors Information Pods are being constructed.

Councillor Jim O’Boyle, the cabinet member for jobs and regeneration, said: “Research tells us that the most impactful moments for visitors happen in the first and last hour of their visit, and now it’s our turn as UK City of Culture and visitors will be in the city, it’s important to make sure they’re warmly welcomed, well-signposted and given all the information they need to make their visit a great one!

“We’re doing a lot of work at the moment to improve and regenerate the city centre, including the construction of the two new tourist information pods which will be vital for visitors, but the ongoing work will also leave a lasting legacy for local people to be proud of.”

Coventry’s new Visitor Information pods will be opening in July and have been designed by Creative Giants, taking inspiration from Coventry’s post-war architecture to make use of glass in its design.

David Boughey, head of City Host volunteering, said: “The City Hosts will be based around various transport hubs, including wayfinding from outside the railway station towards the city centre. The welcome role of City Hosts complements the Visitor Information service well, and the volunteers have been enjoying being able to provide that special visitor welcome, complemented by the resources available from the Visitor Information team.”

If you would be interested in becoming a City Host, applications are still open and training will be delivered throughout the year. Find out more and apply online at:
