Coventry, like the rest of England, is in lockdown for the coming weeks, but we are remaining positive and looking forward to what's ahead in our exciting UK City of Culture year.

While those from outside the area are currently unable to visit the city (unless for education or essential business travel) - and local residents are encouraged to stay at home, there are still options available for those nearby to enjoy our city's natural beauty spots and open spaces for exercise and fresh air with your household or support bubble.

In addition, while our city restaurants remain closed to walk-in visits, many are now offering alternative delivery solutions, perfect for you to indulge at home and treat yourself during these difficult times. Support our independent restaurants by reading our latest suggestions of the very best places to try, or if you're attempting the 'Veganuary' challenge, why not check our list of some top places delivering the best in vegetarian and vegan food?

While we understand these are exceptional and challenging circumstances, we know that you will support us in hoping for a successful and prosperous 2021.

Happy New Year!

Coventry welcomes its UK City of Culture year

City of Culture 200

While Coventry’s year as the UK City of Culture does not officially begin until May, the team was delighted to announce just some of their exciting plans for a 365-day programme at the end of 2020, with more announcements to come in February.

The events announced are the first insight into the ways in which Coventry 2021 is radically rethinking what a City of Culture, and its legacy, means to the region and audiences locally and internationally.

All events are being planned in a flexible and responsive way, to allow them to be presented next year in line with the guidelines at the time they take place. The programme shows the ways that Coventry City of Culture and its artistic partners are tackling the challenges presented by COVID-19, innovating how events are created, and how audiences can get involved.

To view the full list of announced events, please view the City of Culture website.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Coventry

WMP

The sunshine has sadly disappeared and the leaves have fallen from the trees, which can only mean that winter is well and truly here, bringing a third national lockdown with it.

Instead of hiding out under the covers at home, waiting for the ice to melt and the sunny weather to return, why not wrap up and take advantage of the change of season by visiting some of Coventry’s finest green spaces and parks?

With that in mind, we have put together just a few of Coventry’s beautiful green spaces that are still open to local residents during the national lockdown.

Check out our blog on the Visit Coventry website

During the national lockdown, you can exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person outdoors. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

Food and drink to enjoy from home

Veganuary

While we remain in lockdown, we are all desperately seeking new and indulgent ways to keep us happy during our long weekends at home.

On the Visit Coventry website, we have begun compiling some of our favourite places to enjoy delicious food, supporting the local restaurants currently offering fantastic takeaway options, available via delivery right to your door, or via handy click and collect services.

If you'd like to find out more, head to our brand new food and drink page today.

Community testing continues in Coventry

Lateral Flow

In order to understand the way COVID-19 is transmitted in communities and reduce its spread, community testing for Coronavirus is available for all Coventry residents, for anyone who is not showing symptoms of the virus.

The locally-led testing service will test people without COVID-19 symptoms (asymptomatic) in Coventry using lateral flow antigen testing. The aim of testing people who do not have COVID-19 symptoms is to protect those most at risk, using rapid testing to speed up the process.

To find your nearest test centre, please visit the Coventry City Council website.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, should immediately seek a free test in the normal way by calling 119 or visiting the NHS website
