The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) is at the heart of musical life in the West Midlands, and one of the world’s greatest orchestras.

Performing over 150 concerts around the world every year, their global reputation has been established by a succession of dynamic and exciting conductors.

CBSO Principal Guest Conductor Kazuki Yamada is joined by violinist Daishin Kashimoto, first Concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker and a much in-demand soloist, for two works with a Romantic leaning: Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1, the first of three violin concertos by the celebrated German Romantic composer, and by far the most popular; and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.3, which he began after completing The Hebrides.

The evening begins with Prokofiev’s first symphony. Described by the composer as “a symphony in the classical style” it nonetheless finds him absorbing the works of Haydn and Mozart from a distinctly 20th century viewpoint.
