The Charterhouse

The Carthusian Priory of St Anne-a unique Grade 1 listed building and grounds, surrounded by parkland in the centre of Coventry. Charterhouse is a grade I listed 14th Century Carthusian Monastery, one of only nine ever built in Britain. The Carthusian order was a silent order. The interior contains unique medieval and Elizabethan wall paintings, and the gardens are surrounded by the original monastic precinct walls. The Charterhouse is owned by Historic Coventry Trust who are working in partnership with Coventry City Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore the building and the house, garden and new café will open to the public during Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture.
