Coventry Calendar competition winners

In April 2009 we ran a competition that encouraged the public to upload their images of Coventry to photo-sharing website Flickr to help create a gallery that truly reflected the beauty and diversity of the city.

The competition was won by Raphaella Philcox, an 11 year old school girl from Leamington Spa after her photograph of Frank Whittle taken from underneath the Whittle Arches in Millennium Place won over the judges. Despite being such a young age, the keen amateur photographer beat off competition from around 550 entries to claim the prize of £200 Jessops' vouchers. Raphaella will now see her photo featured on the front cover of the official 2010 Coventry calendar alongside a further 12 shortlisted runners up.

Mick McLaughlin, Marketing and Communications Manager at CV One said,

"The standard of photographs submitted to the competition was fantastic and made shortlisting extremely tough. We received photos from all walks of life, from city living to scenic landscapes, and were particularly impressed with the diversity shown in the images.

Raphaella's picture of Frank Whittle particularly stood out due to its excellent composure and iconic nature. To later discover she was just 10 when she took the photo was unbelievable and is a testament to her ability."
